Day Long
Trombone Sectional
Hello veterans and future members of the Southerners Trombone
Line. We hope everybody is having a great summer and are
excited about band camp as we are. In order to be better
prepared as a section for band camp, we will be having a
day-long sectional on Saturday, June 21. We will be covering
most of the traditional stand music, and the opener, and a
visual block with Southerners’ assistant director, Jeremy
Stovall. Lunch will be provided at a cookout at Germania
Springs The Schedule for the day is as follows:
9:30-
Introductions and Warm up, Mason Hall Performance Center
10:15- Traditional Music (listed below)
11:30- Break
11:45- Russian Sailors’ Dance
12:30- Lunch provided at Germania Springs
1:30- Marching Instruction
2:00 Marching Block
3:00- Break
3:15 Music Review
To make the
day go as smoothly as possible, everyone will need a few
things. First of all, Russian Sailor’ Dance, Salvation, Stars
Fell on Alabama, The Star-Spangled Banner, and Southerners’
Special should all be playable. You do not have to have them
memorized, but you should at least be able to read through
them. All music is available for download on the homepage. You
will also need a few supplies:
-
Trombone
- Tennis shoes (no marching in flip-flops)
- Music Stand
- Refillable water bottle
- 2 pencils
- 1 inch 3- ring binder
The sectional
is not mandatory, and non-attendance will not affect your
standing in the line, but we need as many people as possible
to come and keep their skills sharp so that we can be the
strongest section that we can be. We have a lot of talent this
year, and a dark, brassy show that will really let the
trombone line shine if we can step up to the challenge. We
have the chance to have something really special this year,
and we owe it to ourselves and each other to make it as good
as possible. If you plan on coming to this event, please send
me an email ASAP! We need to know who all is coming so we can
order the food. We hope to see you in June, and will see
everybody at band camp in August. Have a great summer!
Thanks,
Matt Loyd and Darin Medders
